| This page is mostly about my own flying, but below the RVAC banner you will find other pages with in my site from humour to things of interest, fly-ins and airshows. Click a reason on the left..have a few picture pages from some of my trips etc. I haven't added too many topic related links here, as I have a links page where they are better suited. Basically the following is chronology of my own flight training, scroll to the bottom for the latest info. My own interest in flying started way back when I was 9. Taking my first aeroplane ride on a TAA Boeing 727 was an experience that kicked off a life long passion. After joining the Australian Air League in 1985, I took up gliding and achieved my ticket in 1988, flying an ES52 Kookaburra, an Australian Built two seat trainer. In 1989 I started Power training with Coldstream Flying school. As luck would have it, I had left school in the middle of a recession, so money dried up pretty fast. Eventually my life sorted itself out, and I was able to resume my training in July 1999 with Tristar Aviation at Moorabbin Airport, flying a Grumman AA1b Trainer. On December the 4th I finally passed my GFPT (General Flying Progress Test) thus enabling me to take friends for a fly within a very limited area.
Grumman AA1b VH-MDA Shortly after gaining my GFPT, I transferred my training to the Royal Victorian Aero Club base at Coldstream. Given that this airfield is 3 minutes from home, it was much better than 1 hour to Moorabbin. Here I converted to Piper Warriors, and started my PPL (Private Pilots Licence). After some time I did my first navex (Navigation Exercise) in August 2000, and tried to get a little more serious on the theory for my PPL.
Piper Warrior VH-LBL in RVAC colours I was finding motivation a little difficult for the theory so whilst awaiting the start of a theory course I went and did my CSU/Retract (Constant Speed Propeller/Retractable Wheels) endoresment flying a Piper Arrow IV. This was something new and challenging to fly, and very enjoyable.
Piper Arrow IV VH-HAB at Yarram After a few months I finally had my PPL theory exam passed and got serious with my Navex's. I managed to get a few photo's of my 3rd trip for you to see...click here On December the 9th 2001 I finally attempted and Passed my PPL flight test. Check below for other sets of pics from my training. Right now I have enrolled at Holmesglenn TAFE to do my Commercial Pilot (CPL) Theory, and am building hours as we go. Check below for pics of interest. Very Recently (late March) I have started my Multi Engine Endoresment, Flying a Beechcraft Travelair. This involves about 8-10 hours of dual flying, so money is a little scant at the moment. Well I have finally finished the twin ticket...did it 8.5 hours flying. So now I am endorsed on Travelair's and with a check flight I can fly a Baron also.
Beechcraft B95 Travelair VH-AEM Since My last entry here, I have done a Lot of Flying. I almost have enough hours for my Commercial Licence, and am working my way through the last of the exams 14/04/03 Well have finally added a Multi-engine Night Visual rating to my licence, so no more racing end of daylight to get home :) also Got myself endoresed on Piper Seminoles.
